Even though the storyline in Twilight movies is set within the Olympic Peninsula of the United States (Washington state), the filming is done elsewhere. The sequel to Twilight – New Moon is being filmed in the Canadian city of Vancouver, because producers were able to get better deals there. This has bummed one of Washington’s senators who is now looking to pass legislation that would make sure other picture productions don’t move to Canada or elsewhere, but stay in Washington.
Senator Jeanne Kohl-Welles has passed the Washington Substitute House Bill number 2042 which is supposed to make Washington more competitive for production of major motion pictures. The bill increases maximum funding assistance from original 20% of the total money invested by production companies in Washington to new 30%. The measure is now being passed to It now goes to Gov. Chris Gregoire.
Being Canadian I must insist that Vancouver is not only a more attractive location becuase of better deals producers get. Canada also offers unsurpassed scenery and friendly people with countless other advantages which certainly make production of any major picture in the Great White North beneficial for producers. I also must insist that Canada is hands down THE best place for filming of Twilight saga movies and I’m sure producers will not regret the decision and will be back for production of Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. Canada simply rocks and deserves to be the setting for Twilight saga movies.
