New Moon Box Office Record Statistics
As have been predicted by the Twilight Series fansite several times before, New Moon owned the box office straight from its initial run. As the most anticipated movie of 2009, New Moon broke box office records and secured its spot in the all time hall of fame. The statistics are more than staggering:
During the opening weekend, The Twilight Saga: New Moon premiered from 4024 movie theaters and earned whooping $140.7 million – more than four times as much as first runner up, The Blind Side (box office earnings of $34.5 million) or second runner up 2012 (box office earnings of $26.5 million).
Considering the opening day of New Moon (Friday), the movie became an all time #1 earner in the USA, totalling earning up to $72.7 million, beating the record held by last year’s favourite The Dark Knight.
On a worldwide scale, New Moon earned $274.9 million on its opening weekend. New Moon plain and simple owned the box office and shattered the statistics with ease.
