Catherine Hardwicke, the director of successful Twilight movie is reportedly in talks with Summit Entertainment, production company behind Twilight regarding directing of a fantasy/drama movie If I Stay. If I Stay was written by Gayle Forman and even though the book is not out yet, Catherine Hardwicke is already making arrangments to be the director for the movie based on the book. Summit Entertainment parted ways with Catherine Hardwicke despite massive commercial success of Twilight movie and gave director’s chair over New Moon to director Chris Weitz.
If I Stay will be published by Dutton Children’s Books and hardbooks are due on the shelves of bookstores later this spring. The story of If I Stay is centered on a girl who’s a classical musician and who has a boyfriend who is an indie rockstar. When the girl gets into a car accident with her family, she’s forced to choose between life and death.
Erik Feig, president of productions at Summit Entertainment said name Catherine Hardwicke came as clear choice when deciding for the perfect director for If I Stay. The movie like that would require the director to capture the emotion, grace and passion of the book, and apparently Catherine Hardwicke has that gift.
